Shimon Bar On and Fanny Frid

Shimon is 97 years old, a Holocaust survivor, from Ashkelon.

The disability:

Shimon – a Holocaust survivor, suffers from pain in his limbs, has difficulty walking and difficulty dressing up.

Fanny – 2 knee prostheses.

Their house was hit twice by rockets

All the window blinds, windows, and doors got broken, the stair lift collapsed and their house was destroyed. Their car was also completely damaged (total loss). The whole house was covered by broken glass. During the rocket attack on their house, Fanny was in terrible anxiety, waited near the window, and shouted for help. At 2:30 am a police car drove by, helped them and evacuated them to the Ashkelon welfare hotel, to a house without a Safe Room, that was inaccessible and a shelter that was far from the room within a walking distance time of 30 seconds, so her partner could not get to it in time. After a few days, they showed up on Rafi Reshef’s TV show who introduced their event and made sure to link them to Access Israel. Access Israel team made sure to arrange an accessible room for them at the Rothschild Hotel, and made sure they had several meals during each day.

A Quote by Fanny: “He was standing under the crossbar at the time of the siren and miraculously survived because there were 2 hits above him… “

“We don’t have a Safe Room and therefore, we can’t return back home and the house is still uninhabitable….”

 Dear Michal, 💐💐💐

It’s amazing to see that there are good people like you in our country, a woman who cares, sees the other and works to help where it is possible. It really gives us hope and a glimmer of sanity in the horrible reality we live in right now.

I have no words to thank you for your help, dedication, empathy, sensitivity and understanding of the difficult situation that me and my old man and many other good people found ourselves in. We send you our thanks and appreciation from the bottom of our hearts and souls 🙏🏻

Bless you from above and keep spreading light and goodness around you 🙏🏻🌹💋💙🇮🇱♥🌹🩵🇮🇱💙♥🌹🩵🇮🇱

  1. Eliad Achsenfeld: 49 years old, living on his own. He served in the Navy commando and was injured during the service. Worked 20 years for the police.

The disability: had two strokes in the past, two catheterization surgeries, 8 broken vertebrae, 100% disability, paralyzed leg, uses a motorized wheelchair. Parkinson’s is what limits him the most. Difficulty moving from a lying position to a sitting position. He was diagnosed with PTSD from his military service, with severe anxiety. With an immediate need for psychological therapy.

In his house: there is no Safe Room, and he lives in a very old house that is not fit for living. The nearest shelter is 250 meters from the house. Welfare had no solution for him – they called him on the second day of the war and asked him to go to his neighbors. In the past, they tried to find a solution for him and transfer him to an old apartment, on the second floor without an elevator. He can’t go upstairs with a wheelchair. Therefore, he had to stay in his dilapidated house.

He contacted us 3 days after the war and asked for immediate assistance in evacuating him to a hotel with an accessible room. On the call, he was upset and urgently asked for the help of a psychologist, he claimed that he escaped from the inferno and the bombarding and drove to the hotel from a bypass road, so as not to see the terrible sight of corpses on the sides of the road. On the same day of his arrival, we immediately arranged for him a meeting and the mental assistance of a psychologist.

He claimed that thanks to us he felt good. According to him, he was “transparent”, no one helped him or saw him. Thanks to Access Israel, the authorities are currently assisting him. We raised him up and fought for him to receive rights from the state.

At the same time, we also provided him with a laptop, meals, and continued treatments with welfare and social workers, and we even made sure to extend his stay at the hotel.
