The system is designed to assist people with disabilities in emergency evacuation from buildings, based on the Step-Hear system. The system is based on two components, the first is the installation of Audio-sign units near each emergency exit or significant passage in the building. The second component is a navigation system within buildings that provides guidance adapted to the emergency situation. The Audio-sign units are activated in an emergency – they sound an appropriate evacuation instruction and activate a flashing light. In order for the navigation system within the building to work, the building is required to perform preliminary mapping and connect the application to the users in the building.
The goal of the system is to enable faster and calmer evacuation for people with disabilities and the general population.
Many studies show that a combination of voice guidance with voice indication helps in rapid evacuation in emergency situations of a population without limitations and even more so of populations with limitations. The navigation system helps in evacuation from any location throughout the building to the emergency exits, with visual guidance or guidance at every turn.
